As much as we need it we have
not received much rain over the past week. Water flows continue to remain
extremely low; complicating the conditions the extreme hot weather certainly
doesn’t help the water temperature. Starting with Oatka Creek, Genesee River
and the surrounding creeks and rivers. The Trico hatch is coming off in force.
There have been several mornings this past week where the Trico hatch has been
intense. These heavy hatches will keep the fish feeding until mid to late
morning. Keep in mind; air temperature will also play a big role and how long
the bug and Fish activity will last. Ants and Beatles will also be on the menu through
out the day. A few rivers that we have been fishing lately do not have a
significant Trico hatch, we are having good success is the variety of caddis
flies and traditional tractor flies. The biggest concern is water temperature.
When we get a break in the hot weather, water temperatures will drop and the
trout become active. This is nothing new for this time of the year.
Fall is coming!
