Looks like Old Man Winter has
a tight grip on us once again. Not a whole lot has been going on with the
fishing this pass week. Everything in western New York is pretty much shut
down. Either locked up with ice or is in extreme low water conditions. About
the only game for Western New York is the Genesee River. Even here ice is a big
concern between the shelf ice and slush ice in the river, fishing the Genesee River
has been a bit dicey. We are going to need a lot more snow, ironically and a
good warm spell to get the rivers and creeks flowing. For now the only real
fishing we have is the Salmon River. Even here we are dealing with low water
flows. The Salmon River has been flowing at 285 CFS. This is the winter minimum
water flow for the salmon river. Even hear I do not foresee a flow increase any
time in the near future. However as always we should constantly monitor
waterfalls while planning our winter fishing trips. I have spent some time fishing
the lower fly zone last week. We had the best action dead drifting black
stoneflies nymphs about a size 8. Like I said not a whole lot going on at this
time. Looks like we are going to get a lot of Fly-tying done over the next
couple of weeks.
