This past week we have
finally received a little rainfall. This rainfall was not enough to cause much
of an increase in water flows. However I fear this rainfall is insignificant to
keep water flows at consistent levels, unless we receive more rain soon. For
now water flows remained consistent at 350 CFS
Looks like the salmon fishing
has started to turn towards a positive. Late last week we had the first real
run of salmon. Hopefully from this point, we well have study flows of
fish. The few salmon that has been in
the river have started to spawn. Spawning activity is right on schedule, hopefully the salmon biological time clock will
keep the run moving along for the rest of the month. If at this point the
salmon continue move into the river on a daily basis. We will have consistent
fishing from top of the river to the bottom of the river. On the Salmon River, It
takes approximately 3 to 4 days for a salmon to reach the lower flyfishing zone
in the upper river. With this in mind we can often project where particular
groups of salmon are located along the river.
The steelhead fishing
continues to move along, way head of the normal. At this point one can expect
to catch a steelhead or two in the fly zones, granted you are fishing the
appropriate pools and runs. This is not to say steelhead fishing has become a
guaranteed. For now the steelhead fishing is running ahead of the normal time
schedule.
Productive flies, for this week has been Black
stoneflies, orange, pink egg flies, and of course the standard Willy buggers in
black and silver, brown and copper, olive. This week we did our best in
lowlight fishing conditions with pink estaz woolly buggers. The best size this
week for willy bugger fishing is a size 6.
