The spring fishing on the Oak Orchard River seems to be running about seven to 10 days ahead of schedule. This is prime time for the Oak Orchard you can find steelhead anywhere from the dam on down River. Wherever style of fishing you prefer, swinging flies in the pools or sight fishing in the ruffles, this is the time to do it. Fish activity levels have been inconsistent over last few days. The fish activity will turn on, but exactly when is known only to the fish. You have to show up, have faith and stick it out, eventually steelhead will turn on. The last few days the best fishing has been the afternoon. Water temperatures have been holding in the mid 40 degree range. At this temperature range there has been a slow trickle of steelhead's coming and going on the gravel beds. Everyday we are finding a fair number of new fish spread out on these gravel beds spawning.

The Salmon River Pulaski NY- For now the water release is at 1500 CFS. The water flow at the Pineville gauge is reading 20020 CFS and rising. There is a lot of sown to melt off all the way up the river. The weather is looking wet for this week and the water release is most likely going up. The water temperatures are for now at 36 degrees. If the sown milts off fast enough the water temperature will drop. The water flow is turn up to mush, this week it just may make the fishing little challenging. As for the fishing, not much has changed. Keep the fly on the bottom. Egg flies and nymph are still tacking there share for fish. You need to slow down the drift and keep the fly on the river bottom.

Note I April 7 8 9 has opened up for the Oak Orchard. This is prime time, sight fishing or swinging a fly. April 16 17 19 20 26 for the Salmon River is still open. April is spawning time and there louts of steelheads in the upper river waiting to spawning. If you have any questions feel free to call. 585-352-4710 or call the shop at 585-352 4775.
